The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality completed the first phase of the remedial investigation of the historic, Fenner’s Ditch oil seep on November 10, 2016.Fenners-Ditch

Fenner’s  Ditch is an inlet of Bear Lake. The oil seep has presented a water quality, aesthetic and socio-economic problem for decades.

Soil, groundwater and oil samples are currently being analyzed. Next steps will be additional investigation or planning the remedy.

The MDEQ will keep the MLWP posted and we will let you know when the results of the investigation are available.
